5 THINGS w/Clarissa Jones
1: Karin Tidbeck’s The Memory Theater
I just finished it, and thought it was one of the most interesting, inventive, and emotionally moving novels I’ve read all year. Highly recommended!
2: Franny Choi’s Soft Science
I am rereading this , and I think it is at an intersection of sci-fi and poetry that I find particularly interesting and engaging.
3: Sleigh Bells’ Texis (yes, spelled with an I)
I have been listening to this album on repeat for the last week, especially the single “Locust Laced.” Their particular combo of indie pop and alt-rock is a lot of fun and really works for me.
4: Pastries from Sittoo’s
Especially the harissa cakes, which are these little cakes made of semolina flour and coconut and then soaked in honey. Absolutely decadent.
5: Absurd Halloween decorations
Octopuses don’t have skeletons and a pineapple made of skulls is just silly, but that doesn’t stop me from loving all the anatomically impossible Halloween decor or from ordering one of those skull pineapples.
